The OP was comparing the 70-200 FL vs. the 70-200 S. There are three versions of the 70-200mm/f2.8 AF-S VR in the F-mount. I happen to have the first two, but the 3rd, most recent F-mount version has one fluorite element and is supposed to be the best among the three. That version is commonly referred to as the FL version:
What you lose for paying only half as much is that this Tamron is built only to good consumer levels, while the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 FL VR FX and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II are built to extraordinary professional standards with mostly metal barrels and metal filter threads. In comparison, I used the Nikon f4 24-70 Z, and the 50m 1.8 Z and had great results. I had a hard time keeping focus on people, using focus tracking, and getting keepers using high speed continuous focus using a variety of AF modes. Has anyone else shot an indoor event with the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 G2 with the Z cameras with good results? Class-leading close focus ability. Superior aberration suppression. And the most comprehensive optical VR image stabilization in the history of NIKKOR interchangeable lenses. The NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S sets an impressive new standard for fast telephoto zoom lenses optimized for the next generation of Nikon's advanced mirrorless cameras.

I've bought a Nikon 70-200 VR II yesterday. Wonderful! Canon EOS 5D Mark IV Canon EF 70-200mm F2.8L IS II USM Canon EF 24-70mm F2.8L II USM Sony a7C II review It's not quite as big of an enlargement as Nikon's latest pricey 70-200mm, the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR ($2,346.95 at Amazon), which captures images at 1:4.8 life-size, or the Canon EF The Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, Nikon's first stabilized fast tele zoom, was a highly regarded lens on DX cameras, but did not find that many friends on FX cameras, mainly due to its reputations of producing high vignetting and lack of border sharpness. Nikon adressed these issues with an upgraded model, the Nikkor AF-S 70-200/2.8 G ED VR II. I’d also like to use a teleconverter on this lens. I know the newer version of the lens, the Nikkor 80-200mm F/2.8 ED doesn’t work with the Nikon teleconverters but supposedly works with the Kenko teleconverters. An older version of the lens, the Nikkor 80-200 mm F/2.8D IF-ED works with all but one Nikon teleconverter.

The Nikkor AF-S 70–200 mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR seems to be the child of those times. In principle it is designed to work on full frame but produced with the assumption that the whole digital world will use it on DX sensors. As it was shown in our test, that lens indeed performed superbly on the sensor of the Nikon D200. MrF5Rrf.
